A monument erected to preserve the memory of Hernando de Soto's landing in this region in 1539, the De Soto National Memorial immortalizes this point in history when these southern regions of North America were first explored. Inside the park's visitors center, a variety of exhibits illustrate how vital this exploration was and has plenty of hands-on activities for kids as well. During the winter months, Camp Uzita opens up as a living history center complete with interpreters in period garb. During the entire year, there is a nature trail for outdoor exploration, as well as some small beaches and a picnic area for families to enjoy. The park is west of downtown Bradenton on the waterfront, across the Manatee River from Emerson Point Park.
Open daily sunrise - sunset.
Free.
